P5/6 My Mind and Me Mental Health Workshop
Today our P5/6 class took part in a 3 hour Interactive Mental Health Awareness Workshop. Emma was the trainer and she told us there were 5 ways to look after our well-being and how we can use each one to stay well.
learn
be active
give
take notice
connect
We worked with our friends to carry out activities that taught us the signs and symptoms of anxiety, worries, stress, isolation, emotions. Next we learnt about simple ways to turn things around and cope better. Showing kindness to others actually helps us as well.
Andrew volunteered to help Emma with an activity where everyone would suggest something that made them worry or feel sad. They picked a ball from Emma’s big sack and poor Andrew did a great job trying to hold them , as more and more were added. We could see that with all the worries, Andrew wouldn’t be as good at football or farming. Then we gave suggestions to help us to feel better:- ride a bike, play with friends, take the dog for a walk, sing. Song …. To show this happening, we took back the balls and he was back to his active self.
Sharing our worries lets us get on with the fun things that will bring back our smiles. We gave compliments to each other and left with happy smiling faces. Friends are so important and we need to be kind and encouraging to everyone.
